How I started building campers

In 2019, I planned to work labor and hospitality on the professional motocross tour for my second year. It was a dream job, but I learned early that staying in the hotels, with the young guys on the crew, meant little sleep, long nights and tired working days. In my mid-thirties, I could no longer hang.
So before the 2019 season, I thought it best to travel on my own to each round and sleep in peace in a boxvan I bought weeks before. I converted it into a mini apartment with a shower, bed, sink and air conditioner. It was rough but enough.
In 2020, I wanted to do the same thing for the same crew and save a little gas money. The series travels about 14,000 miles over the summer. This time, I built my first mini camper and filmed the process. I’d tow it with a four-cylinder car so I built it as lightweight as possible. When I shared the build on Youtube, folks expressed their enjoyment in watching the process and I earned a little revenue. I built three more with style and complexity playing more of a role in each build.
Building campers was a discovery out of necessity and quite accidental.
Now here we are, six campers built.
